The name “Pattachitra” is derived from two Sanskrit words: 'Patta' meaning "cloth" and 'Chitra' meaning "picture." Artists begin by sketching the basic design on the surface. The detailing is done using fine brushes with natural colors made from minerals, herbs, and flowers. The hallmark of Pattachitra art is its fine, intricate brushwork. The paintings are traditionally done on cloth, though they can also be painted on palm leaves or wooden surfaces.

The colors are vivid and long-lasting, and the painting technique uses a unique blend of natural pigments and adhesives. Completely Handpainted with the same pattern drawn skillfully on both ends of the dupatta.
