DESCRIPTION
Gopalpur Tussar is GI tagged, granted to recognize the unique traditional weaving techniques and the high quality of the fabrics produced in the region.
The name and design are inspired by the Dola Biman festival, where the palanquin, or "Biman," is used to carry Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra during Ratha Yatra.
The saree is completely Handwoven with Pure tussar Silk. This fabric is a wild silk with natural character, & produced from silkworms that feed on leaves of forest trees. Tussar silk sarees are lighter and more breathable than many heavy silks — making them comfortable to wear even in warm weather. At the same time, the weave yields a surprisingly strong fabric. Unlike super-glossy silks, tussar silk sarees have a more subtle, earthy elegance. The texture and muted sheen lend them a timeless, refined, and artisanal look.
These sarees have a distinctive ornate pallu (the “aanchal”) and border — often decorated with motifs inspired by temple imagery, folklore, nature (birds, parrots, turtles), chariots, and festive symbolism.;
