Gopalpur Tussar is GI tagged, granted to recognize the unique traditional weaving techniques and the high quality of the fabrics produced in the region.
The name "Dolabedi" is derived from the words "dola" meaning swing and "bedi" meaning platform. Dolabedi saree pay homage to these magnificent chariots seen during the Dola Purnima festival. Each motif resembling triangles or domes, are meticulously woven using the extra weft technique, commonly found in Gopalpur weaves.
The body of the Dolabedi saree is adorned with buttas, creating a vibrant canvas. The pallu, equally resplendent, features intricate designs of turtles, parrots, and chariots, symbolizing the joyous festivities. The vibrant pallu beautifully contrasts with the relatively plain and simple body, exuding a regal aura. Thesei sarees are skillfully woven using various weaving techniques, including jala and dobby
The saree is completely Handwoven with Pure tussar Silk. This fabric is a wild silk with natural character, & produced from silkworms that feed on leaves of forest trees. Tussar silk sarees are lighter and more breathable than many heavy silks — making them comfortable to wear even in warm weather. At the same time, the weave yields a surprisingly strong fabric. Unlike super-glossy silks, tussar silk sarees have a more subtle, earthy elegance. The texture and muted sheen lend them a timeless, refined, and artisanal look.
